Set up rewards

When this step is done, customers have more than one reward to aim at.

In EarnKit: Program › Rewards

A reward is a discount customers can get by spending their points. You choose what each reward costs and what it’s worth.

Before you start

Go to ProgramRewards.

Add a reward

  1. Under Reward options, select Add reward.
  2. Set Points needed: how many points this reward costs.
  3. Set Discount amount: how much this reward takes off, in your store’s currency.
  4. Turn on Offer this reward if you want customers to be able to redeem it right away.
  5. Optionally, expand Custom reward name to set your own name. If you leave it blank, the reward is named after its discount amount.
  6. Select Add reward, then save the page.

For example, a $5 reward for 500 points and a $10 reward for 1,000 points give customers more than one thing to work toward.

How much a reward should be worth

Start at $5 and stop at $100. Below $5 a reward is not worth the saving it took to get there, and a customer who does the sums decides the program is not for them. Above $100 you are writing off a meaningful order, and the points balance behind it becomes a liability you carry for months.

Where you sit between those depends on two things:

  • Your average order value. A reward should feel like a real dent in a typical basket, not a rounding error and not most of it. On a $60 average order, $5 to $10 reads as a thank you; $50 reads as a mistake.
  • Your order volume. A busy shop can carry a larger reward because customers reach it often enough for the program to be doing its job. A quieter shop should keep rewards small and reachable, or nobody arrives at one.

The ceiling matters more than the floor. A reward that is too small disappoints one customer at a time; one that is too large is a discount you have promised to everyone who keeps shopping, payable at a time you do not choose.

Good to know

  • Two enabled rewards can’t cost the same number of points.
  • If your rewards give very different amounts of discount per point, EarnKit warns you before you save, so you can check the numbers are what you intended.
  • A reward you turn off keeps its settings; customers just can’t redeem it until you turn it back on.
  • Editing a reward changes only what happens after you save. Reward codes customers already claimed keep their original value.
