Program › Ways to Earn
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Enable ways to earn | The product switch for earning. While it’s off, customers aren’t offered any way to earn, and no new points are awarded, including purchase, welcome, birthday or social follow points. Purchase points already pending can still become available. Your saved settings are kept, and points already earned are unaffected. Referrals have their own separate switch. |
| Award purchase points | Turns on points for paid orders. Both this and Enable ways to earn must be on for an order to earn points. |
| Points per {currency unit} | How many points customers earn per unit of eligible spending, for example points per dollar. A whole number, at least 1. |
| Delay when points become available | Holds new purchase points for a period before they can be spent, so you have time to handle returns. |
| Pending period | How long, once the delay is on, purchase points stay pending after the order is paid. Up to 60 days. Changing it applies to new points only. |
| Award welcome points | Makes the once-only welcome award available. Existing Shopify customers are eligible; customers imported with a starting balance, including a zero-point balance, are not. |
| Welcome points | How many points the welcome award gives. |
| Require customers to claim their welcome points | Off by default, so the points are added the first time an eligible customer opens their Rewards page. Turn it on to show a Claim button there instead. |
| Award birthday points | Awards points once a year on a customer’s saved birthday, starting from the first birthday after they enroll. |
| Birthday points | How many points the birthday award gives. |
| Award social follow points | Turns on points for following your store on social platforms. Customers self-report the follow; it isn’t verified. |
| Social follow channel (Platform, Profile handle or URL, Points for following, Channel is on) | Configures one social platform. Up to 3 channels can be active at once. |
| Award points on test orders | Advanced setting. While on, orders placed through a test-mode payment gateway earn real, redeemable points. Meant for testing your program before launch. |
Program › Rewards
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Points needed | How many points a reward costs. |
| Discount amount | How much a reward takes off, in your store’s currency. |
| Offer this reward | Whether customers can redeem this reward right now. Turning it off keeps the reward’s settings but stops new redemptions. |
| Custom reward name | An optional name for the reward. Left blank, it’s named after its discount amount. |
Program › Refer a Friend
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Refer a Friend is on | The product switch for referrals. While off, no referral link is offered and no new referral is attributed. Referrals already rewarded are unaffected. |
| Referrer reward | How many points your customer receives once their referral qualifies. |
| Require a minimum purchase | Whether the friend’s order must reach a minimum amount to qualify. Off means any qualifying purchase counts. |
| Minimum qualifying purchase | The eligible-spending amount, after discounts and refunds, a friend’s order must reach to qualify. |
| Hold the referrer’s reward before paying it | Delays paying the referrer’s points after the friend’s qualifying purchase, so a refund can reverse the reward first. On by default. |
| Hold the reward for | How long the referrer’s reward is held before it’s paid automatically. The default is 30 days and the maximum is 60 days. |
| Give referred friends a discount on their first qualifying purchase | Turns on the friend discount. Also needs Refer a Friend is on; it is independent only of the Referrer reward points amount. |
| Discount type | Whether the friend discount is Percentage off or Fixed amount off. |
| Friend discount percent (% off) | The percentage off, from 1 to 99%, when the discount type is percentage. |
| Friend discount amount | The fixed amount off, in your store’s currency, when the discount type is fixed amount. Must be less than the minimum qualifying purchase. |
Settings › General
| Setting | What it does |

| Store URL, Currency, Time zone | Read-only facts about your store, read from Shopify. Change them in Shopify’s own store settings. |
Settings › Billing
Billing has no configurable settings. It shows your current billing cycle, eligible orders, estimated price, and a link to manage billing in Shopify. See Manage billing in Shopify.
