Which part of an order earns points: the subtotal after discounts, without shipping, taxes or gift cards.

Not every dollar on an order counts toward points. EarnKit awards purchase points only on eligible spending, so a merchant’s cost stays predictable no matter how an order is put together.
What counts
Eligible spending is the merchandise total after discounts: what the customer actually paid for products, once any discount is applied.
What’s excluded
- Shipping. Shipping charges never earn points.
- Taxes. Tax is never counted as spending.
- Gift cards. Buying a gift card doesn’t earn points. Awarding points for the purchase and again when the card is spent would pay out twice for the same money.
A worked example
At 5 points per $1: an order with $100 of merchandise, a 10% discount, plus $8 shipping and $9.20 tax, comes to $107.20 at checkout. Eligible spending is $90 (the discounted merchandise total), so the order earns 450 points.
Good to know
- Eligible spending is calculated per order line, after that line’s share of any order-level discount.
- If part of an order is later refunded, only the points for the eligible spending that was refunded are reversed. Canceling an order without refunding it doesn’t change its points. See Refunds, cancellations and order edits.
