Privacy and customer data

What customer data EarnKit keeps for your loyalty program, including points and order evidence, and what it does not store such as names or email.

EarnKit runs your loyalty program on the data described below. This page is a plain-English summary; our Privacy Policy is the full legal document.

What EarnKit stores about your customers

  • Their Shopify customer ID, so their points, birthday and referral history all tie to the same person.
  • Their points balance and their points activity history.
  • The Shopify order ID and the eligible spending on it, so you can see why an order earned the points it did.
  • Refund details needed to reverse points correctly.
  • Their birthday, month and day only, if they choose to enter it. No year is collected.
  • Referral links and attributions, so a referrer can be paid when a friend’s order qualifies.
  • Reward codes that have been issued.

What EarnKit does not store

EarnKit does not store your customers’ names, email addresses, phone numbers or postal addresses. At the protected-data level EarnKit ships with, customer names and email addresses are not shown in your admin yet.

Referral codes don’t carry any part of a referrer’s name either: codes are generated from a random suffix alone.

What EarnKit stores about you and your staff

  • Your shop’s identifier and install details, to authenticate your store in the app.
  • Staff login state for the embedded app.
  • Your loyalty program settings and their change history.
  • Your billing relationship, managed through Shopify.

Good to know

  • EarnKit does not sell customer data or use it for advertising.
  • Points are awarded by the rules you configure, applied the same way to every order.
  • You can download a copy of the points and earning data EarnKit holds; see Export your data.
  • EarnKit processes customer-data erasure requests from Shopify automatically. The Customer data requests page handles requests for a copy of data; it is not an erasure tool.
