Purchase points

Turn on purchase points in EarnKit and set how many points customers earn per currency unit on eligible spending from paid Shopify orders.

Last reviewed

Purchase points are the core way customers earn: a set number of points for every dollar (or other currency unit) they spend.

Before you start

Go to ProgramWays to Earn, and make sure Enable ways to earn is on.

Set up purchase points

  1. Turn on Award purchase points. Points are awarded when an order is paid.
  2. Set Points per {currency unit} to the number of points customers earn for each unit of eligible spending. This must be a whole number of at least 1.
  3. Save your changes.

This rate is also what decides the effective value of each reward you offer, shown on the Rewards page.

What customers see

Customers don’t see anything at checkout. Their points appear on their rewards page once the order is paid, or after any pending period you set (see Pending and available points).

Good to know

  • Only eligible spending earns points: the order subtotal after discounts, without shipping, taxes or gift cards. See Eligible spending.
  • A guest checkout, with no customer attached to the order, earns no points.
  • If you delay when points become available, new purchase points wait out that period before customers can spend them. See Pending and available points.
  • Refunds reverse the purchase points associated with refunded eligible spending. Canceling an order without refunding it does not change its points. See Refunds, cancellations and order edits.
