Referrer reward and minimum purchase
Set the points a customer earns for a referral and the minimum purchase that qualifies.

The referrer reward is what your customer earns once a referral qualifies. You choose the points, and whether the friend’s order has to reach a minimum amount first.
Before you start
Turn on the Storefront script first, then switch Refer a Friend is on in Program › Refer a Friend. EarnKit requires the embed before the program can turn on. The reward and minimum described here only apply while the program is on, and your saved terms are kept if you turn it off later.
Setting the reward
- Go to Program › Refer a Friend.
- Under Referral terms, set Referrer reward. This is the number of points the referring customer receives once the referral qualifies.
- Turn on Require a minimum purchase if you only want a referral to qualify above a certain amount. Off means any qualifying purchase counts.
- If you turned the minimum on, set Minimum qualifying purchase. The friend’s order must retain at least this much eligible merchandise, after discounts and refunds, for the referral to qualify.
What customers see
Your customer sees the offer stated as one sentence on their Rewards page, for example “Earn 250 points when a friend makes their first qualifying purchase of $25.00 or more.” If you have no minimum set, the sentence leaves out the amount.
Good to know
- Changing the minimum applies to referrals from now on. A referral already in progress keeps the minimum it was given when the friend’s order came in.
- The minimum is based on eligible merchandise, the same basis used for earning points, so shipping and tax are never counted toward it.
- A friend’s order only qualifies if it is their first order at your store. An order from a customer who has already shopped with you does not create a referral reward, even if it uses a shared link.
- A customer cannot refer themselves. An order placed by the same person who shared the link does not earn a reward.
