How EarnKit works

EarnKit adds loyalty points, rewards and referrals to your Shopify store. What customers do, what you choose, and what to set up first.

EarnKit gives your customers points for purchases and lets them exchange those points for discount codes on future orders. It can also give their friends a first-order discount through a referral link. Customers use their account with your store, and rewards are Shopify discount codes.

What your customers do

  1. They earn points. Eligible paid purchases earn points at the rate you choose.
  2. They get a reward. From the Rewards page in their store account, they exchange available points for a discount code.
  3. They use it and keep earning. They apply the code to a future order. Eligible spending after discounts can earn points toward another reward.

Customers do not need a separate EarnKit account. They sign in to their account with your store.

What you choose

  • Your purchase rate, for example 5 points per $1.
  • Your rewards, for example $5 off for 500 points. Start with one reward, or add more for customers to work toward.
  • Other ways to earn: welcome points, birthday points, social follow points and referrals. You do not need to turn everything on.
  • Where customers see their points: the Rewards page in their account, and if you want them, a points estimate on product pages and the points from an order on the Thank you and Order status pages.

What to set up first

  1. Choose points and rewards. Set your purchase rate and first reward with your margins and other promotions in mind. You can change your settings as you learn what works.
  2. Include existing customers. Add starting balances if you need them, and review the results before you continue.
  3. Make rewards part of your store. Add the Rewards page and choose where else to show points using the guided setup in EarnKit.

Installing EarnKit does not add anything to your store automatically. You decide when points earning starts, and turning it on and adding the customer-facing displays are separate choices.

Requirements

  • You can install EarnKit on any store, but customers can only view and redeem their points on Shopify’s current customer accounts, where the Rewards page appears. Stores on legacy customer accounts are not supported. See Shopify’s current customer accounts.
  • Referral tracking needs the EarnKit app embed, turned on in your theme editor. This is separate from the setup guide; see Requirements and Referral link capture.
