Why we built EarnKit
It started with my wife’s store.
My wife runs CALA. MIA. She wanted to give customers more reasons to come back, and something worth sharing with their friends. We were looking for loyalty and referrals that made sense for a small, growing business, not another big software bill.
By James, creator of EarnKit
The features made sense. The price didn’t.
We wanted points for purchases, rewards customers could use on their next order, and a way to thank them for introducing a friend.
The frustration was finding the features we wanted tied to higher-priced plans. We could choose a cheaper option and leave useful features behind, or pay for a plan that was difficult to justify for her store.
It felt backwards. We wanted those features to help the business grow. We shouldn’t have had to wait until it was bigger to afford them.
So I started building EarnKit.
I started with what her store needed: useful loyalty and referral features, straightforward setup, and a price that made sense for the business.
But the problem wasn’t unique to her store. EarnKit is for other small businesses that want to look after their customers and encourage repeat orders without taking on a large software bill.
Every EarnKit feature is included at every order volume. Use what’s helpful now, and add more when it makes sense for your store. You don’t need an upgrade to unlock another feature.
Your store size changes the price. Not the features.
It should feel like part of your store.
Price wasn’t the only thing that mattered. We wanted a program that worked with the store, rather than another system to work around.
You manage EarnKit in Shopify. Customers find their points, rewards, and discount codes in their account with your store. There’s no separate loyalty login for them to remember.
You have a business to run. Your loyalty program should help you look after your customers, not become another complicated job.
Hi, I’m James.
I’ve spent more than 15 years working across engineering, design, and product. Earlier in my career, I co-founded and ran Simple as Milk, a product studio that helped businesses build and improve their digital products, from solo founders to established companies.
I’ve also worked in ecommerce and consumer rewards. EarnKit brings that knowledge to a problem much closer to home.
I care about getting the whole experience right. The points should add up. The setup should make sense. Customers should be able to find and use their rewards without learning another system.
Built by me. Shaped by her store.
I build EarnKit. My wife runs CALA. MIA and uses it in her store. Her day-to-day feedback helps me understand what’s useful, what’s confusing, and what would make the program work better for her business.
Her store is where EarnKit started, but yours may work differently. Tell me when setup is confusing, when a customer has a points question, or when something could work better for your store. Your feedback helps me decide what to improve.
I want to build a sustainable small business by being genuinely useful to other small businesses. Keeping pricing low is part of that. So is getting the everyday details right.
EarnKit started with my wife’s store. I hope it can help yours, too.
